For AOL users, how to upload your directory image and description.

Each AOL member gets 2 megs per screen name for a web site, you can get 20 megs if you join Hometown AOL, but I doubt you would need to.

To get to your AOL Ftp Space you go to keyword (ctrl-k) My Ftp Space

Then click on See My Ftp Space

In the window that opens, click on Upload

That opens a remote file window

Type in the name of the file as it will appear to web browsers, this can be different than the source file on your own computer.

There are two kinds of remote files,
ascii and binary, images like jpgs and pngs are binary files, text files (.txt) and web pages (.htm) are ascii files

So for a jpg or png, select Binary

And for a txt or htm, select Ascii

Click continue once you have specified a remote filename and file type (Ascii or binary).

That opens a file upload window

Click Select File to find the file on your computer to use.

That adds the file path and name to the upload window

Then click Send which will upload your file.

Your file will be accessable from the web based on your aol screen name, for example if your aol screen name was 1234 and the file was test.jpg then http://members.aol.com/1234/test.jpg would be its URL. If it was named myserver.txt then its URL would be http://members.aol.com/1234/myserver.txt.
